I was tired Tuesday. I spent the day at work a little groggy and really didn't feel like doing anything when I got home. Not really a biggie. I figured I'd go to bed early-ish, get a good sleep and be back on track. The idea was to be well-rested and head out to the Brickyard Wednesday night. No such luck. Thanks to a variety of disturbances including late-night skateboarders (who will never know how close they came to having their knees broken with one of my large wrenches), pre-dawn crows with spring-fever and the cats running from one window to the next to see said crows, I got next to no sleep Tuesday night. For all the sleep I got I may as well have gone to Lick and stayed until closing - at least then I would have had a more worthwhile reason for feeling like utter zombified crap Wednesday. Yesterday was an almost complete write-off. It took most of my faculty to maintain the appearance of a wakeful state, there wasn't much left over to actually accomplish anything. By the time evening rolled around the Brickyard was out of the question. Elaine picked up some earplugs for me (what a sweetie) and I *did* get to bed early last night, but Elaine's been worried about a few things these past couple days and did a lot of tossing and turning that resulted in a less restful night than I hoped for. Getting up this morning was difficult, but now that I have been up for a while I find that I am relatively well-rested. At least today I can think well enough to remember what I was doing five minutes ago and carry a conversation. I was an complete 'tard yesterday. I should have stayed home and slept - not that I would have been able to since Barclay RestorDestroyations are still working on the damned fire-escape that two months ago we were told would take "about two weeks".

This annoys me to no end. At the moment the den is ripped to pieces for the fire-escape work that could have been and should have been done over a year ago. The hallway just inside our door is also ripped to pieces for electrical work that was supposed to have been done before we moved in. In fact, one of the reasons we moved into this apartment was that the electrical work had been "finished". The only thing that keeps me from demanding a break on the rent is the knowledge that we already are getting a better rate compared to what is being charged for comperable apartments in the building. By moving in when we did we got the old "pre-fire/pre-restoration" rates. The almost identical apartment above us (that we considered but decided not to take because that floor has lower ceilings, smaller balconies, and doesn't have arched windows in the bedrooms) is over $300 more expensive now. Hanging in through this will result in a great apartment for significantly less than market rent. That's what I keep reminding myself while I look at the gaping holes in the wall covered by plastic and cardboard.
