Vancouver Art Gallery lions. Notice how the lion on the left has no seam but the lion on the right does. During WWII someone blew up the right-side lion's butt. I was originally told that it was done by someone who got bored manning an anti-aircraft gun that was positioned on the lawn of the then courthouse, but apparently that was a later embellishment to the story – although there were anti-aircraft placements downtown in 1942 when this happened. When I took the photo there were a couple maintenance guys from the city looking at a recent repair to some of the paving bricks near the bottom of the stairs. They were curious about what I was up to, thinking that I was taking a picture of something that needed repair. I told them what I was taking a picture of and the older guy got excited because his boss had told him the story when he started 20 years ago and he never really knew if it was true. The younger guy was intrigued and had to go look.
