Today at Work

« previous next »

Today at work I was making some images that will be used for the city's newsletter (that goes to every household in the city), for a new tourism brochure, and possibly for permenant signage at the end of the Rocky Point pier. My co-worker brought along a small point-and-shoot and took pictures of me taking pictures.

Getting a good angle on the boardwalk involved leaving the boardwalk for the tidal mudflat. As you can see I was not exactly dressed for the occasion.

Fortunately it was low tide and the mud wasn't too squidgy. I was very carefully trodding on the bunches of sea grass rather than directly in the mud to prevent myself from sinking. Normally one is not supposed to go walking around on the mud like this, but given that I am a civic employee creating material to promote the park and one of the models I was shooting on the boardwalk was a Port Moody police officer, the regular park rules were dispensed with. I wouldn't advise doing this, and I especially wouldn't advise doing this in hard-soled leather shoes and dress pants.

The other comical incident of the day involved my getting attached to a blackberry bramble and needing assistance to extract myself without ripping my favourite dress shirt.

It's all made more amusing by the fact that I am just about the only person who regularly dresses up this much for work. The standard dress in city hall is office-casual.

Bonus points for any photography-types who can point out what's odd about the way I am using the camera. I've never seen a picture of me taking pictures before, and while I know what I do is unusual (but quite necessary for me) these are the first pictures I've ever seen of how odd it really looks.
