Au Contraire

« previous next »

Whatever reaction I'm supposed to have, I'll just have the opposite one, K? Last night I was thinking about my student loan coming to an end and bummed. Today I was handed my walking papers and I'm thrilled.

I've been given an eight-month working extension (September 9th will be my last day), which if I finish it, I will get a bonus of 10% of my salary for those eight months plus a four-month severance for a total of 4.8 months pay. Basically I have 2005 covered. That is more income security than I have ever had. I consider this the last gasp of decency coming out of the old company that I was hired into. If I had been asked to stay on permanently I would have had to have moved to Vernon. This is infinitely more preferable. My vacation time will be pro-rated for the portion of the year I will be working, which gives me two weeks vacation between now and September 9th. That puts me in good stead for a week at Convergence 11 and a week in NYC some time before bitogoth moves to hurricane-land. I am pleased.
