So here is my wacky project. This is my "gypsy chest". I made it around 1992 from a chest I got from a friend who in turn got it from a friend who used it to bring his stuff back south after being stationed in Alert on Ellesmere Island. The whole thing was painted khaki green when I got it so I painted it and used the remnants of my childhood coin collection to decorate it. It was my coffee table for a decade. My Ex wasn't too fond of it so it lived in dark corners for 15 years. With her gone it came back into service as my coffee table. But it has always had some functional shortcomings. When it is full it was hard to move. Adding some feet fixes that. The bigger problems are it is awkward to eat off of (and 99.9% of the time I eat dinner on the couch, watching TV) and there it always stuff on it, making it a pain to open so it isn't as effective for storage as it could be. Ergo, I found a use for a couple of the zillion leftover Ikea Allen keys that everyone has, and installed some lift hinges. Et voil! I'm in the process of touching up the paint and adding more coins to the back.

[March 9] The view from one of the the Golden Jubilee Bridges. At the time I thought this was the Millennium Bridge (just assumed because it was a pedestrian bridge) but that is actually further downstream. I thought about going up the London Eye, but then I saw admission was 29. Fucked if I am going to pay $50 for a ride on a Ferris wheel.
