Saving the Brexit Boots: A Tale in Six PanesPreface: I bought these boots online a year and a half ago from a place in Essex when the Pound utterly tanked after the Brexit vote. These are pretty much my everyday boots.1.) The heels were gone. Both worn down and rubber had come off one. I took them over to the only shoe shop in Marpole, which it turns out is pretty frou-frou. They were looked upon with disdain and I was told it would be better just to buy a new pair. That never happened with the shop near my old place. I was expecting it to cost $15-$20. I thanked the proprietor and took my boots back home.2.) Back home I traced one of the heels and made a template.3.) I took the template to the Sally-Ann and found a $10 pair of shoes with heels the right size, then went to the dollar store for a $1.25 tube of contact cement.4.) I pried the heels off the $10 shoes.5.) I pried the heels off the Brexit Boots.6.) I created Franken boots, and shouted "They're alive!" while turning the lights on and off. $12 vs. $120.
